Amy came to Washington in 1999 with her own equipment and a passion for reporting. She landed a job at WTOP and has been with the team ever since. She's covered everything from the Elian Gonzales conflict, to missing intern Chandra Levy, to Sept. 11 and the sniper shootings.
Before coming to Washington, Amy lived in Illinois where she worked for several radio and television stations. Her claim to fame in the Midwest was an investigative report that uncovered a scandal in the Illinois gubernatorial race. Today Amy is the afternoon anchor for Federal News Radio AM 1050. "My brother is a soldier, my husband is a federal worker, so I am very interested in learning all I can about the federal government, how it works, and applying my knowledge to my career. Plus the team is terrific!" Amy's hobbies are working out, refinishing old furniture, and spending time with her husband, Doug. She especially enjoys her iPod mini and has a rather eclectic collection of music, from funkadelic to cowpunk. One of her very favorite bands is the Old 97's. Amy grew up in a small rural town in South Carolina and is a proud University of South Carolina graduate. Despite Steve Spurrier being the new head coach, she remains a passionate Gamecock supporter. Never, ever, ever disturb her when "her boys" are playing football. Seriously. "Whether or not it is clear to you, the Universe is unfolding as it should." |
