MSPB Rules Against U.S. Park Police Chief

The Merit Systems Protection Board sustained the Park Service’s removal of Police Chief Teresa Chambers.

In a case that drew widespread attention, Chambers was fired this summer after she told the Washington Post that Park Police resources were strained by a shift in focus after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Chambers challenged her removal as whistleblower retaliation, but MSPB Administrative Judge Elizabeth Bogle disagreed.

Administrative Judge Bogle concluded that Chambers’ actions were “inconsistent with the degree of trust required for her position.”

Chambers insists she did nothing wrong and says she will appeal the ruling.

The case is: Chambers v. Dep’t of Interior, MSPB Docket Nos. DC-0752-04-0642-I-1, DC-1221-04-0616-W-1 (DC Cir. 2004)
