Hanging Ten with Yoga

When the walking and the weightlifting start to get tiresome, change up your routine a bit with an ancient practice that's considered "new age."

"Mark these words. Yoga is the wave of the future," says Rick Bradley, author of "Quick Fit" and a former fed.

Bradley says yoga is enjoying a resurgence thanks to baby boomers.

They've been inactive, they expect instant gratification, instant results, and doctors are telling baby boomers that if they want to stay healthy and want to active, you gotta start exercising more, and you must focus on your health and flexibility.

And Bradley says yoga is just the way to increase your flexibility as well as find a little quiet time for yourself. After all, feds deal with stress all the time, and yoga can help you mellow a bit.

It is an extremely terrific avenue to stress management, and provides a peaceful time for exercise. You are going to find more yoga centers, yoga classes to attend because it is the way of the future. There is always something about yoga in nearly every fitness magazine.

And when Bradley was working at the Department of Transportation, he says they had a special place for feds to practice Yoga. "We had it separate from the fitness center, where it was quiet. In terms of stress management it is fantastic."

And now the National Institutes of Health is taking seriously the claims of the health benefits of yoga. They're conducting studies to see how yoga helps people with back pain, breathing problems, even diabetes. For more on the trials, click here.
